Immersive Installations: Night Rooms
Immersive Installations: Night Rooms
Vulnerability and Place MFA Thesis Exhibition, The Ignition Space, Fall River, MA
I describe my approach to immersive Installation as a “Night Room”, recalling the elements of rest and intimacy we often experience at night. In spaces we associate with recuperation and intimacy, we can quite literally take off our outer garments (whether physical or psychological) and simply be without a preoccupation of perception and the scrutiny of gaze. The Night Rooms are built through an engagement of the senses, softening sight through subdued color hues and temperatures; touch through interactive objects and fabric textures that encourage relaxation and contemplation. These components partner with the sound poem to ground and facilitate viewer dialogue with the painted realities.
